Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race
Day
1:
Arrive in Fairbanks overnighting at Pikes Waterfront Lodge. Airport transfers
included. We’ll meet you this evening for a pre trip orientation.
We provide lodging.
Day 2:
After a relaxing morning we’ll tour the world renowned University
of Alaska Fairbanks Museum before driving two hours to the northern border
of Denali National Park. You will have the opportunity to snowshoe and
see the tallest mountain in North America, Denali! Overnight in an exceptional
Bed and Breakfast.
Day 3:
We’ll head north today to visit the Chena Hot Springs, a 4 hour
drive. Along the way you will have the opportunity to see the Alaska pipeline
and mush your own team of dogs! Evening photo workshop on photographing
the Northern Lights with your guide, a professional photographer. Overnight
in a deluxe cabin at the Hot Springs.
Day
4:
Relax and enjoy the hot springs. Options for today include sleigh rides,
sled dog rides, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snow machine rides
as well as simply relaxing in the springs warm outdoor pools. Overnight
in a deluxe cabin at the Hot Springs.
Day
5:
Today we’ll depart the Hot Springs in the morning for a two-hour
drive to Fairbanks. Once there we’ll transfer to a commercial flight
up the Yukon to Dawson, a wonderful flight seeing tour. Explore Dawson
and watch for the front-runners of the sled do race just arriving in town!
Overnight in Dawson at a comfortable hotel.
Day
6:
Continue our exploration of Dawson and watch the front running teams arrive.
Activities include touring the Klondike gold fields, seeing Robert Service’s
and Jack London’s cabin, dog sled rides and visiting the oldest
casino in Canada! Overnight again in Dawson.
Day
7:
Today the dog race is in full swing! We still have teams arriving and
the leaders are starting to depart for Fairbanks after their mandatory
36 hour lay over. We’ll celebrate our having the “time of
our lives” this evening with a farewell dinner together. Overnight
again in Dawson.
Day
8:
Fly to Fairbanks in the early morning. Transfer to your flights home with
a lifetime of great memories.
