Guided Alaska Rafting Wrangell
St. Elias National Park
The Wrangell St. Elias National Park offers many
incredible rafting trips. One our favorites is the mighty Copper River
that flows through the Chugach mountain range. Its an exceptional river
to float. For centuries the towering Chugach and St. Elias mountains have
created the largest ice fields in Alaska which in turn carved
out a world that defies the imagination!Rafing the
Copper River
When you go rafting on the Copper River you'll experience one of the most unique rafting trips we know of. Highlights include two calving glaciers sending massive blocks of ice dircectly into the river! Definately our favorite glaciers in Alaska. You'll also have the opportunity to go hiking on one of the glaciers. Huge salmon runs in the Copper river attract harbor seals up to 100 miles upstream and the nesting bald eagles can be found throughout the float. You'll explore 100 miles of
pristine, roadless wilderness before arriving at our take out near the community of Cordova, a small fishing town located on the shores of Prince William Sound. We'll also explore the amazing Copper river delta which is home to astonishing numbers of birds, especially trumpeter and tundra swans.OptionsOptions include touring the turn of the century mining town of McCarthy and the Kenicott Mines, one of the greatest engineering feats of the early 1900's. From McCarthy we can raft several tributaries of the Copper river to extend the rafting trip to 10 to 12 days and include some white water rafting as well. We can also combine a fly in wildernss hike with your rafting trip. We explore several amazing alpine plateaus and offer over a dozen trips into the backcountry for hiking.
You can also choose to combine an incredible sea kayaking trip in Prince William Sound with your rafting trip. After we arrive in Cordova we'll swap the raft for kayaks and paddle to Valdez exploring many beautiful fjords along the way. Optional lodging arrangements can be made on the sea kayaking portion including remote lodges and private yachts.
