Rafting in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Exploring the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a once in a lifetime experience! Rafting along crystal clear streams full of char and grayling while Musk ox, caribou, wolf and bear roam the tundra is an experience that goes beyond descriptions.

Northern ANWR

The north Slope of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge offers several amazing rivers and is best known for the Porcupine caribou herd that has long used this region as a calving ground in the spring. The famous Kongakut river flows to the north along their migration route and offers great rafting, hiking and fishing. We specialize in exploring the less traveled rivers on the north slope including the Canning, Hulahula, and Ivishak rivers.

Southern ANWR

The south slope of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is where you'll find the caribou in the fall, when their new coats and beautiful antlers glisten in front of a backdrop of fall tundra colors. The berries are ripe, bugs are gone and the fishing is exceptional on several wonderful rivers. To top it all off the northern lights can be found dancing in the autumn sky! During August and early September this region is unbelievable.

Options

The best options for exploring the Brooks Range are to combine the endless hiking opportunities with your rafting trip. Tundra covered ridge lines and ancient game trails combine with 24 hours of light to create a hiker's utopia in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Combination rafting and hiking trips link the best of both worlds. We also offer inflateable canoe trips on smaller streams as well as sea kayaking along the shores of the Beaufort Sea. We offer tours for families and small independent groups. Every itinerary is customized to the groups desires and specifications.

We provide transportation from Fairbanks to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, lodging before and after the trip, and a wide range of equipment including tents, sleeping bags and rain gear. Your guide is an Alaskan with a degree in biology. Guaranteed to provide a lifetime of wonderful memories.
